For operators.
Innovatus was founded on a straightforward premise: organizations facing their most consequential decisions deserve advisors who have sat in the chair — leaders who have owned the P&L, managed the transformation, and navigated the politics of complex enterprises firsthand.
The firm brings together deep Fortune 50 executive experience across healthcare, financial services, retail, automotive, and construction with advanced academic credentials in management, systems engineering, innovation, and organizational design. This rare combination — what we call the scholar-practitioner model — means every engagement is informed by both rigorous research and battle-tested operational judgment.
Our name reflects our mission. Innovatus — from the Latin "to renew, to alter" — captures what we do: help organizations transform with intelligence, discipline, and purpose. We are not a firm that delivers theory. We deliver outcomes.
Whether you need fractional executive leadership during a critical transition, strategic consulting to redesign your operating model, coaching to sharpen your leadership team, or a practical roadmap for enterprise AI adoption — Innovatus operates as an extension of your leadership, fully invested in your success.
Jelani brings more than 25 years of executive leadership experience across five industries — healthcare, financial services, retail, automotive, and commercial construction. He has held P&L responsibility up to $11 billion and led large-scale operational transformations at organizations including Elevance Health, Capital One, Walmart, General Motors, and Ford.
Jelani currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of the General Building Contractors Association (GBCA), a 135-year-old trade association representing 300+ member companies in commercial construction — while simultaneously running Innovatus and teaching graduate-level courses in organizational design and strategic management as Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Maryland.
Jelani holds a PhD in Management from the University of Maryland, an MS in Management and Systems Engineering from MIT Sloan, an MS in Innovation & Entrepreneurship from HEC Paris, an MBA from Indiana University Kelley School of Business, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University. Jelani is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC).
Jelani is an alumnus of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program and is actively positioning for corporate board service, with international advisory relationships across the United States, Europe, and Latin America.

What leaders say.
"We brought Jelani in during a leadership transition that had the board nervous and the team adrift. Within 60 days he had restructured the operating model, stabilized the senior team, and given us a 12-month roadmap that actually got executed. He doesn't hand you a framework and wish you luck — he stays in it with you."
"The coaching engagement changed how I show up as a leader in rooms that used to make me anxious. Jelani has a rare ability to hold a mirror up without being precious about it — the feedback is direct, the methods are grounded in actual research, and the results are measurable. My 360 scores moved 22 points in eight months."
"We were stuck in AI pilot purgatory — three proofs of concept, no production deployments, a skeptical board. Jelani came in, diagnosed exactly where the adoption bottlenecks were, and built a governance structure that let us move. We had our first enterprise deployment live within the quarter."
"Our association had grown past what our operational infrastructure could support. Membership was up, but so was churn and staff turnover. The Innovatus engagement redesigned our governance, clarified accountability across the leadership team, and cut our onboarding time for new staff by 40%. The board noticed immediately."
"What I didn't expect was how much cross-industry perspective would matter. Jelani brought solutions from healthcare operations that we'd never have found inside construction. That's the part you can't get from a consultant who only knows your sector — the pattern recognition that only comes from having run other rooms."
"Jelani served as our fractional COO for seven months during a period when we couldn't afford to get the hire wrong. He ran the function like he owned it — because operationally, he did. When our permanent hire came on board, the transition brief he prepared was the best onboarding document we've ever produced. That alone was worth the engagement."
